I found out 2 weeks ago that I've been diagnosed with a very treatable cancer so today is my first appointment at the cancer clinic where I live. As soon as I found out I told my boss what was going on. This way I could keep him informed of any appointments or time I may miss. He said he understood and was quite compassionate with my situation, however he said that since he is out of the office quite a bit, he has to let my other boss know of the circumstances so he doesn't think I'm skipping out...Trying to get myself out of a slump I went to work anyways today with a big smile on my face and planned to work until I was ready to leave for my first appointment. My dullminded boss came up to me and said, " So I heard you have cancer, does that mean your going to die? Because if you are I should probably start looking for a new secretary." What a Bossdonkey....and I'm quite alive.

I work at a small company. Three employees and the owner. The owner is laying off one of us and splitting that employee's duties across two new positions created from scratch. The Craigslist ads offer a salary of "25,000 plus". I guess I missed a couple days of math, because I don't see how having two people do the job of one while the rest of us remain undercompensated adds up.

Background: The department has been working overtime pretty much since January - 50-70 hr weeks, depending, with weekends Jan-Apr. Today, an email from the categorically passive-aggressive boss: For those of you looking for a place to keep cool from this hot weather this weekend, I wanted to remind everyone that I have the air conditioner on in the office on Saturday’s from 9 to 5 and Sunday’s from 12 to 5. Max, William and I have had a wonderful time hanging out the past couple of weekends. If you get the urge to come by and hangout this weekend, you will most likely find me here on Sunday morning. Max likes to get in earlier, so you will typically find him here starting around noon (that is early for Max on the weekends). Either way, Have a great weekend!

If there's an award for the world's worst boss, my boss would probably win it. At one meeting, where he was going over the rules with everyone and trying to motivate us to work hard (it also happened to be the week my supervisor was on vacation), he proceeded to insult all of us. He told one kid he needed pants like what Urkel from Family Matters wears. He told myself and another female coworker we needed to be more like peppy cheerleaders. He continued around the table, telling one guy he was a guy who liked to hit light poles, another guy that he was a speechless, old man, and yet another guy he looked like a lobster with feces in its head because he was so sunburned (the guy had forgotten to put on sunscreen that day). All this was said using every curse word in the book and then some! Two days later, he called me into his office. I was naturally nervous, since no one ever wants to end up in my boss's office, especially after how he treats most of us employees. I sat down and waited for him to start. He told me I was working to hard, that he'd gotten complaints about me working too hard, and that if I did it again, he'd fire me! All I could do was apologize and promise not to do it again. I went home speechless. I never thought I'd see the day that actually doing your job and going above and beyond what's required would be worthy of complaints, getting called into the boss's office, and threatened with your job, but apparently, that's how things are where I work. When my supervisor returned the following Monday, I talked with her because she was curious as to how the week had gone without her there. When I told her what had happened, she promised to take care of it because my boss had violated some of the H.R. (Human Resources) rules for how bosses are supposed to treat employees. Since that day I got called into his office, my boss has been very quiet and hasn't called anyone into his office for complaints, unless they have a meeting with him. Lets just hope it stays that way!

My ten-year work anniversary rolled around and normally the managers would make a presentation and recognize an employee for all their hard work and dedication. My boss comes out to my desk and says, "Oh, by the way...I have your ten-year certifcate here for you. It has been on my desk and I may as well give it to you now, so Blah, Blah, Blah!" "Here you go!" Wow, what a presentation! Is this all I get after ten years? I couldn't believe it. I thought this really lacked professionalism on his part and I was very disappointed. What a bossdonkey!
